January 26-30 wrap up

Wow first off I apologize the blog is so late. A pretty nasty bug made it through the house last week (Feb 2-6) George was sick and then I was so I never felt up to doing the blog. Also with mom and George sick we never managed to get into the school room that week.  Finally the bug has set sail and things are back to normal in the house.

Back to the wrap up. We had a fun week. We wrapped yo our studies on Iowa and West Virginia which was nice. we also wrapped up our studies on Venus. So here's the week in pictures.

On Tuesday we played with our time puzzles. The way we did this was I kept the digital read out and gave George all the analog  read outs. He would then tell me what time and I would see if I had it. If we I did we matched it up and if it fit he got a point. For every three points he got without missing a  puzzle he got a bonus ticket. By the end of the game he had earned 5 bonus points. This made it more fun since he was getting rewarded and harder since he couldn't just match the puzzle pieces.

This is what the puzzle looks like.

Just a quick pic of the spelling/reading board. Looks like we got the word wax spelled out.

This is a shot of George working in the book Sam and Sophia sent him. If you remember we use this for a geography lesson. Its a program called little passports and two kids named Sam and Sophia travel the states and send a package every month of the two states they visited. George has really got into this. We try to do a state every other week.

Pj day lol. I have a book called creative kids, its full of fun activities. I usually try to pick one a week to do and this week I picked origami. This proved to be a giant failure. Neither myself or Robert could successfully make the boat the way the book showed. After being frustrated to much we went back to old school boats that double as hats. George loved it. We even went a step further and made it water proof and put it in the tub.

George chose to add stickers to his.. He was very happy to use them. George is addicted to stickers, especially the foam ones.

In our draw write now book was a swan for this week. He has almost completed the book. Soon we will be moving on to book two.

Working on spelling words.

How far hes come in spelling. Hes doing great! He loves seeing the charts and how much progress hes made.

The reading chart. Again hes come far. The reading program is longer and hes doing on average two lessons a week.

This week we also introduced spelling phrases. They are made up of two of the spelling words. I was shocked how good he did. He sounds out each word and spells it. We will definitely be using all about reading and all about spelling next year.

While finishing up the studies on Venus we did a project that showed how radar works. I took a box crumbled some paper in it then filled it with a cement. Then we covered the box with a rag and made a grid. We made an identical grid on a piece of paper. Using a skewer that we color codded we pushed it in each grid and noted what color it stopped at then colored the matching spot on the piece of paper that color.

Here you see the whole thing in progress.

Georges chart. They yellow was the flat surface the black was a low spot and the pink was a high spot.

George decided on his own to put together his magnetic states puzzle on our big board.

Here he is finishing up a math page.

So that was our week. Onto new things this week. Keep your eyes out for new blogs.
