Math-U-See Beta

Ok so briefly I told you about all of the curriculum books we are using but failed to share any links on the items. Now that I have used most of the things for a few days I thought it was fair that I update it as well as share some belief's. Maybe your a family member who likes seeing what George is learning or maybe your a fellow homeschooler who wants my ideas on how this curriculum works so you can decide if its good for your own family. I am going to do this weekly with a new subject. this week I decided to do our math! So here we go!

For math we are using Math-U-See. We are using the Beta level. Jump over here to see all about it!  For beta we have the teachers manual, student book, test booklet, dvd, and manipulative blocks.  We start the new lesson out with watching the dvd and working along side with it. The following day we start with the student book. They tell  you that the child does not need to complete them all but we are going to just to be sure he has a great concept of the math. So we do pages A and B, then C and D, then E and F then on the last day we do the Review page and the test page. The test page is never told to him that its a test its just a page I no longer help him with. Its just up to him to try his hardest on. I am against student testing but I use this page as another worksheet to see if he truly understood the concept.  George so far is loving the math! Its very hands on. They want to be sure you build, write and say the math. This week we are doing place value. We build it with the blocks, we write it after its build and then we say it. It is truly fun!

Here are some stock pictures of the Beta
These are the blocks. It comes with
  • Colorful 88-piece base-10 stacking blocks

  • Five each of 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, and 100s

  • Seven 5s

  • Twenty units

  • Twenty-one 10s

  •  This is the student book and the test book

In Math-U-See Beta you will find these things in the books. (This is straight from their website)

    Additional Concepts and Skills:

So far we are loving Math-U-See and couldn't imagine not using it. George is a fast math learner and loves math so even though some of this is review for him its going to be sure he has a strong foundation and no gaps in his education for math. their is also tons of math worksheets he can do. You can choose to just do student pages abc if your child grasps the content but my son loves math so I am just letting him do it all. If you have any questions about Math-U-See please do ask!  If theirs a certain subject you want covered next week let me know if not I will just pick one.  See you at the end of the week for our weekly wrap up!
